You already know what AI can do for your writing.
You’ve figured out how to train it to match your voice, your tone, your style. You’re using it to add structure, to polish presentations, to make ideas land better on the page. You know how to prompt it for better phrasing, cleaner arguments, more professional delivery.
But consider this:
While everyone else is optimizing their OUTPUT - making their content sound more polished, more professional, more structured - almost nobody is using AI to deepen their INPUT.
In other words: most are using AI to generate more and better content, very few are using AI to improve their thinking.
But you can definitely do both. In fact - in my opinion - the people who build real authority aren’t the ones with the most polished writing. They’re the ones with the deeper thinking. And AI can actually accelerate that, but only if you use it differently than everyone else does.
The 12 methods below are about building the credibility, depth, and authority that justifies a polished and professional-looking presentation. They’re about the thinking work that separates people who sound like experts from people who are really experts.
If you’re creating good content but results aren’t coming, there may be more than a reason. One is that getting good at doing something new takes time even for those who are good at learning anything. I am seeing this myself. The rules of the game have changed more than one could have imagined and becoming visible, recognized and trustable takes a lot more than publishing regularly and respecting key SEO principles. It’s not because your writing isn’t good enough. It’s because your thinking isn’t deep enough. Today is depth - real, demonstrable depth - what builds the trust that turns readers into followers, followers into subscribers, subscribers into happy customers and supporters.
These 12 methods show you how to use AI to add depth, pattern recognition, intellectual rigor, and the ability to find what others miss. These are non-obvious smart moves that most people bypass.
Phase 1: The Research Phase
How AI Builds Your Foundation
Research creates foundation. But foundation alone isn’t expertise. What matters is what you do with the research—how you interpret it, challenge it, synthesize it, and present it.
The first four methods show you how to use AI to do deep investigative work that separates experts from surface-level voices. This is the foundation every authority is built on.
Method 1: Deploy AI for Deep Investigation
What this means: Ask AI to find patterns across countless sources. Not summaries—patterns. Ask it to spot contradictions nobody noticed. To map how ideas evolved over time. To trace the intellectual terrain before most people even know it exists.
How to do it:
Feed AI a topic you’re exploring
Ask: “What are the contradictions in how experts approach this? What are people missing?”
Ask: “How has thinking about this evolved? What changed?”
Ask: “What patterns do you see across these sources that most people don’t talk about?”
Why this builds authority: When you understand the patterns beneath the surface, you’re not just reporting what others say. You’re seeing the structure underneath. That’s where real expertise lives.
Understand the key emerging ideas in your field before most people even know they exists.
Method 2: Dig Across Hundreds of Sources
What this means: AI can cross-reference far more material than you ever could alone. Use it to spot contradictions, to trace how ideas evolved, to find where the real intellectual action is happening.
How to do it:
Ask AI to compare how different experts approach the same problem
Ask: “Where do these sources contradict each other? What does that tell us?”
Ask: “Can you map the evolution of this idea across these sources?”
Look for inconsistencies—that’s where thinking is actually happening
Why this builds authority: Most people stop at one source or one perspective. You’re seeing the full conversation. You’re seeing where disagreements actually matter.
Don’t limit yourself to be up-to-date. Master where most experts and different lines of thinking - in your field - diverge and why.
Method 3: Use AI as Your Research Assistant
What this means: AI can handle the legwork of research without replacing your judgment. Ask it to find hidden patterns in your research, to spot what you’ve missed, to outline how an idea evolved over time. Make AI your research partner, not your writer.
How to do it:
Paste in your research materials
Ask: “What patterns am I missing? What contradictions should I be paying attention to?”
Ask: “How does this idea compare to other approaches in the field?”
Ask: “What’s the evolution of thinking here? How has it changed?”
You stay in the thinking seat. AI handles the legwork.
Why this builds authority: Deep authority comes from investigation. Not from having the right opinions—from understanding why opinions matter. AI compresses the time you spend investigating, while you keep on doing the real thinking.
Add to your content the structure and research depth that used to take years to learn and apply.
Method 4: Trace the Intellectual Lineage
What this means: Every idea has a history. Every concept has a timeline of how it has evolved or come to be. But most people don’t know nothing about it. Ask AI to find who first articulated that idea/concept, who built on it, where the real disagreements are. Map the intellectual lineage.
How to do it:
Ask: “Who first articulated this idea? How has it evolved?”
Ask: “Where do experts disagree about this? What are the real points of contention?”
Ask: “How has thinking in this sector shifted over the last 5-10 years?”
Build a map of how thinking got to where it is
Why this builds authority: When you understand the lineage, you can position your thinking within it. You’re not just having an opinion, you’re extending a conversation that has real history and real stakes.
Say: “Here’s what we used to think, here’s how it evolved, and here’s what where it may be going next. Here are the emerging options.”
Method 5: Track Who Pivoted
What this means: The most interesting intellectual movement isn’t new opinions. It’s reversed positions. Ask AI: which voices in your field have changed their minds? What shifted their thinking?
How to do it:
Ask: “Which respected experts have changed their positions in the last 5 years?”
Ask: “What made them reconsider? What evidence shifted their thinking?”
Ask: “Where are the biggest reversals happening in this field?”
Study the evidence that actually moves smart people
Why this builds authority: You’re not collecting opinions. You’re studying intellectual evolution. You’re understanding what actually moves people with expertise. That’s where real insight comes from.
Real expertise evolves. Investigate what are the emerging new key factors that radically influence how something is going to evolve beyond its predicted path.
Phase 2: The Analysis Phase
How AI Helps You Think Differently
Analysis is where you become irreplaceable. This is where your judgment matters most.
The next four methods show you how to use AI to find the gaps in conversations, to question your thinking, and to develop unique insight that only you can articulate. These allow you to gradually transform depth into new original insights.
Method 6: Find What’s Missing
What this means: Every field has gaps. There’s what experts discuss constantly. And then there’s the silence, what nobody talks about, even though it matters. Ask AI to map that difference.
How to do it:
Ask AI: “What do most experts in this field discuss?”
Then ask: “Where’s the silence? What’s consistently avoided? What questions are never asked or stay unanswered?”
Ask: “What do practitioners in this field need that the literature isn’t addressing?”
Look for the gap between what’s said and what your readers are actually looking for
Why this builds authority: The gap between what’s discussed and what’s actually needed, is your editorial territory. That’s where only you can build something. Finding it is the first step to becoming irreplaceable.
Find your niche key gaps where you can be the first to say something important.
Method 7: Find the Real Question Underneath
What this means: Your readers are asking basic questions. But underneath those simple questions there’s usually a deeper confusion, something they can’t quite clearly articulate. Find it. That’s the real question you need to identify.
How to do it:
Collect 10-15 questions your readers have actually asked (in comments, emails, conversations)
Feed them to your preferred AI
Ask: “What’s the deeper confusion connecting all of these?”
Ask: “What are they really asking, even if they don’t know it?”
Look for the pattern beneath the individual questions
Why this builds authority: Most people answer the surface question. You’re answering what they couldn’t articulate. When someone reads your answer and thinks, “Yes, that’s exactly what I needed to understand”, that builds trust instantly. That’s being authoritative.
Identify and resolve the non-obvious key issue(s) silently sitting underneath the problems your readers typically manifest.
Method 8: Find the Non-Obvious Claim
What this means: You’re swimming in information. AI can help you find the signal. Ask: what is the one claim in all this research that nobody else is making?
How to do it:
Paste in an article, research paper, or body of sources
Ask: “What is the one claim here that I haven’t seen anywhere else?”
Ask: “What’s obvious to you after reading this that isn’t obvious in the conversation?”
Look for the insight that only appears when you synthesize everything
Why this builds authority: You’re not repeating what everyone says. You’re discovering what almost nobody has noticed. That’s what separates commentary from insight.
Uncover the non-obvious stuff that’s under everyone nose but no-one sees.
Method 9: Question Your Viewpoint
What this means: Before you publish, ask AI: what do most people say about this topic? How does what I’m saying differ? If AI can’t find the gap, your reader probably can’t either.
How to do it:
Tell AI your main argument
Ask: “What do most people say about this? Where does my take diverge?”
Ask: “Am I adding something new, or just restating conventional wisdom?”
Ask: “What would someone who disagrees with me say? Where are the weaknesses in this argument?”
The goal isn’t to be contrarian. It’s to make sure you’re adding something
Why this builds authority: You’re not guessing whether you’re original. You’re testing it. You’re checking whether you’re extending the conversation or just echoing what most everyone else is already saying. That rigor, that willingness to question your viewpoint, that’s what credible thinking looks like.
Make sure you’re adding new original value to the conversation, not regurgitating what’s already obvious.
Phase 3: The Voice Phase
How AI Helps You Present Your Authority
Now that you’ve thought deeply, the final step is presenting that depth so others can trust it.
This isn’t about making your writing sound more professional. It’s about making your judgment visible. It’s about proving—through examples, through annotation, through clarity—that your authority is earned.
Method 10: Find Examples That Make Ideas Land
What this means: You’ve formed the insight. You know what you want to say. But the right story, a specific case that makes it undeniable, takes hours to find. Ask AI for candidates. You pick the one that fits. You decide how to tell it.
How to do it:
Tell AI: “Here’s what I want to prove. Find three or four examples that illustrate this.”
Ask: “Which of these is most compelling? Which one will readers remember?”
Ask: “How should I frame this example to make the point land?”
You make the final call. AI does the legwork.
Why this builds authority: Examples are where thinking becomes undeniable. When you give a specific, well-chosen case, you’re not asking for belief—you’re showing proof. That’s authority.
Use real-world examples. Stories grounded in reality. Undeniable proofs.
Method 11: Provide Context
What this means: You’ve written an article. But why does it matter? For whom? What should they understand? Ask AI to draft the context that explains its relevance. Then edit until it sounds like you.
How to do it:
Give AI the article
Give it context: who your readers are, what they already know, what they need
Ask: “Why does this piece matter for someone in this situation?”
Edit the response until it sounds like your voice
That final editing step, that’s where your judgment lives
Why this builds authority: Context is where you explain why something matters. It’s where you show that you understand your reader’s context, their needs, their confusion. That’s what builds trust.
Always explain why something is relevant for your specific reader. Never assume this is already granted.
Method 12: Review and Strengthen Your Voice
What this means: Don’t let AI write for you. Let AI analyze what you’ve written. Ask it to find where your thinking could be clearer, where passive voice is hiding your meaning, where a story could make a difficult idea more digestible and easy to absorb.
How to do it:
Paste your article into AI
Ask: “Where is this unclear? Where could I be more specific?”
Ask: “What passages use passive voice? How could I make them more direct?”
Ask: “What difficult ideas could use a story or example?”
Ask: “How could I structure this to be more memorable?”
You decide what to change. AI points out possibilities.
Why this builds authority: Your voice is what makes you irreplaceable. AI can help you strengthen it, make it clearer, more direct, more memorable. But the voice itself is yours.
Make your authentic voice be heard. Beyond its timber, word used and tone, it is the most original and authentic ambassador of your personality and ideas. It’s worth gold. More than video (because with voice people can imagine the “remaining” you in ways that fit their expectations). They can participate in constructing the communication, just like when you read a book.
Why These Methods Builds Real Authority
Again: The people who build real authority, who attract followers, who create movements, who become trusted voices, aren’t always the ones with the most professionally written content.
They’re the ones that people can sense have thought deeply. Who’ve asked more questions. Who have investigated. Who’ve found gaps. Who’ve questioned their ideas. Who’ve discovered something original.
These 12 methods help any expert online, overcome these obstacles by using AI to deepen their thinking. To find gaps and insightful ideas. To prove your authority through examples and relevant context. To do the type of research work that not long ago was reserved only to a few, researchers, academicians, true scientists.
That’s how you can build authority when results aren’t coming.
P.S.: You don’t need to outsource your authority to AI to use these methods. You need to treat AI as your best research partner, good at going out and finding what you need, but not replacing the specific experience and taste you have built over the years.
Your job is to pick and select what allows your credibility and authority to be visible.
AI does the research.
You do the sense-making.
AI finds patterns.
You decide what they mean.
AI finds examples.
You decide which one proves your point.
That’s the division of labor between humans and AI that builds real, earned, undeniable authority.
